This bread pudding tastes a little like tiramisu, one of my favorite things in the world. It's sweet, melty, and delicious. I love bread, and with this recipe, I can use up my day old bread and turn it into something that tastes delicious. Most of the time we make bread pudding from stale bread. I do encourage you to use day old bread, because if the stale bread is too dry, it's difficult to get it to absorb all of the eggs and cream. Challah is great with this recipe, but any good bread will do. I love this with vanilla ice cream. I know that many of you'll try it with coffee ice cream, that's ok too, but the chai flavor will be lost.
Makes enough for four people
2 cup heavy cream
1 cup milk
1 Tablespoon of metro chai dirty chai
1 cup sugar
2 eggs plus one yolk
3 cups of toasted bread(cut about the size of your thumb)
1 cup of white chocolate chips
One stick of butter
Place the milk, cream, and sugar into a saucepan. Then put the dirty chai into a tea ball or bag and place into the milk, cream, and sugar.
Bring to a simmer but do not allow to boil.
Steep hot for about thirty minutes
Chill this mixture
After the milk and cream mixture is cold, pour it over the toasted bread.
Let this sit for about one hour or until the liquid is well absorbed.
Don't worry if the milk and cream aren't all soaked up just continue.
After an hour mix in the chips (yes you can use chocolate if you want)
Place into a buttered baking pan so that the pudding takes up the whole pan.
Cut the butter into little chunks and place on top of the pudding.
Bake in a 375-degree oven until golden brown and puffy, about one hour.
Cool and eat
